Amish Onion Cake

  1. Cook onions in ½ cup butter for 10 minutes.
  2. stir in the poppy seeds, salt, paprika and pepper.
  3. Cook stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from the heat, set aside.
  5. Combine the flour, cornstarch, baking powder and sugars.
  6. Cut in 1¼ cups butter.
  7. Melt the remaining butter.
  8. Whisk the eggs, milk, sour cream and melted butter.
  9. Stir in egg mixture.
  10. Spread into a greased pan.
  11. Spoon onion mixture over the dough.
  12. Place pan on a baking sheet.
  13. Bake at 350 °F for 35 – 40 minutes.
  14. Serve warm.
