Baked Acorn Squash

This warm vegetable-based dish uses lots of butter, honey, and black pepper cooked to steamy perfection.

  1. Slice the squash in half crosswise and scoop out the pulp and seeds. Trim the bottoms.
  2. Place 2 teaspoons honey in the hollow of each squash.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons butter or margarine to each and a twist or two of salt and fresh ground pepper.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the squash.
  5. Place squash in a large, shallow baking pan and bake, uncovered, at 350° F, for about 2 ½ hours.
