  1. Cook bacon. Drain, crumble and set aside.
  2. In Dutch oven or stock pot, melt margarine over medium heat.
  3. Whisk in flour until smooth.
  4. Gradually, stir in milk, whisking constantly, until thickened.
  5. Stir in potatoes and onions.
  6. Bring to a boil, stirring frequently.
  7. Reduce heat and simmer 10 minutes.
  8. Mix in bacon, cheese, sour cream, salt and pepper.
  9. Continue cooking stirring frequently, until cheese is melted. Add milk if too thick.
