  • Makes 6 servings



  1. Cover and cook sausage in water about 5 minutes.
  2. Remove from water and cut into 1-inch pieces.
  3. Drain beans, reserving liquid.
  4. Cook onion in oil.
  5. Add ½ cup bean liquid, catsup, brown sugar, mustard, smoke flavoring and bouillon cubes.
  6. Simmer 10 minutes.
  7. Stir in rice; season to taste.
  8. Cover and continue simmering 20 minutes.
