Similar to tangy fruitcake, this fruit-based dessert is made from real fruit juice, raisins, orange zest, and vinegar.

  1. Sift together first 4 ingredients.
  2. Combine ½ cup orange juice and ½ cup sugar until sugar is dissolved. Add almond extract and refrigerate.
  3. Grind reserved orange rind and add to raisins. Combine together milk and vinegar.
  4. Cream the butter and remaining sugar.
  5. Add eggs one at a time.
  6. Add the dry ingredients gradually and mix well.
  7. Pour into the pan.
  8. Bake 60 to 70 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven and spoon reserved orange juice mixture over the top and between cake and sides of pan.
  10. Return cake to the turned-off oven for 1 hour.
