There are many meals which are served with local wines, as the Cyprus wines have been famous since antiquity and even more during the Middle Ages. The red wine is drunk a lot and it is also used for cooking, including for soaking sausages. Other favorite alcoholic drinks are the raki, which is an anise based beverage and the sema and tasel distilleries. A creative drink is a kind of liquid yoghurt, which is part of some meals like rice pilaf or various veggies and it is served individually as a drink called Aryan, which is plain yoghurt with salt.
