The greatest Swiss snacks are the variety of cheeses served with Wine. The Emmental cheese, Gruyère, Vacherin, and Appenzeller are the most important types of Swiss cheese, and are well known all over the world. Gorgonzola cheese, served with grapes and walnuts makes for a great snack in the middle of the day. Tarts and especially quiches can also be considered as snacks. They are basically pies with a crusty covering, and you can bake them in different shapes so that you can eat them as snacks.

Other Swiss snacks can consist of sandwiches made with ham and cheese, or marmalade ones. Having so many types of cheese available, it is only understandable that the Swiss cuisine takes advantage of this aspect. They are great for kids at school, and can also be replaced with croissants. Even if influenced by the France cuisine, the croissants are very popular in Switzerland. They come available with many fillings, most of them sweet, chocolate-based.
