If you want to try a local dish, you can have the Larb, (Thai ลาบ), which is basically a salad containing different kind of meat, from chicken and beef, to fish. Also, the Som tam (Thai ส้มตำ) which represents a dish made of grated papaya salad, pounded with a mortar and pestle, is a very tasty northern Thai dish.

There are some chefs that know how to cook and serve a salad of green curry “Kaeng khiao wan nuea” in such a way that even an inexperienced person will enjoy the strange but tasteful flavor of such a dish. At first, a classic Thai salad can taste a bit abrupt and strange to a person not used to spicy food combined with sweet and sour taste, so it’s important to serve a dish that is rather mild in the strength of its flavor.
