Uruguayan people love sweet cakes with a lot of milk, but also fruit desserts. Most of the cakes are called torte, which means they contain puffy and juicy dough. Chaja is a local favorite, consisting of a sponge cake with jam and cream. The floating island dessert is made of a custard sauce of eggs, sugar and milk and custard with lemon rind. There is also a French version of the recipe, called oeufs a la neige. Other milk based recipes include the torrijas, torta de leche hervida (milk cake), crema catalana (with lime and maicena), leche frita, huevos de nevados, arroz con leche (rice with milk), flan (with caramel and vanilla), torta de pan viejo and torta de mazanas (with cold milk), Fruit desserts are represented by compota de mazanas, bunuelos de banana (with flour, milk, sugar and flavored with vanilla), tarta de frutas (fruit tart), pan de banana (banana bread) and torta de limon (lime cake).
