Flour

To dust or spread a light coating of fine ground flour over a surface, a utensil, a pan, or a food in order to keep items from sticking together or to assist items with browning during a cooking process. As an example, to keep dough from sticking to a surface on which it will be worked, the working surface is coated with flour and then the dough is rolled out and easily moved around without sticking. Coating foods with flour prior to frying assists with creating a golden browning of the outside coating as the food fries. Other types of foods that are ready to eat are also often coated with flour to keep them from sticking, such as candied fruits.
