  1. First cream the butter, and add the sugar, beaten eggs and milk.
  2. Sift flour, salt and baking powder and add the raisins and spices.
  3. Add the first mixture to the second mixture and stir together.
  4. Roll out thin on floured pastry board.
  5. Cut with biscuit cutter.
  6. Place on greased pastry sheets.
  7. Bake in moderate oven for about 10 minutes.
  8. Hermits must be crisp.
