Huckleberry is a delicious berry and it is a part of Ericaceae family. Huckleberries are very similar to blueberries and they are found in the Pacific Northwest of North America, usually in mid-alpine regions. Huckleberries generally grow in humid soil and they ripen in mid summer. Huckleberry’ fruits are perfectly safe to eat, they have a sweet taste and they are round, small with a blue or dark red color. If compared to blueberries one can find some small differences; huckleberries have hard seeds in the middle and they have a thicker skin. Huckleberries have an elevated content of antioxidants which are well-known to diminish the risk of cancer diseases. The studies on huckleberries have also exposed that they have some components which may stop brain’ functions degradation like in Alzheimer disease and they also prevent urinary tract infections. Next to their numerous medicinal benefits, huckleberries are very taste and they are used in preparing jellies, jams, pies, muffins and other sweets and delicacies, but they can also be eaten raw.
