Description

These shortbread-style cookies always mean Christmas at our house.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 oz. cream cheese
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. grated lemon peel
  • 1 bag of semi-sweet chocolate bits
  • Non-pareils

Directions

  1. Cream butter, cream cheese and sugar
  2. Beat in egg yolk
  3. Stir in flour, walnuts, salt and lemon peel
  4. Refrigerate dough at least 2 hours
  5. Shape dough into "logs" -- roughly 3 inches by ¾ inches
  6. Place on ungreased cookie sheets
  7. Bake at 325° F until lightly browned
  8. Cool
  9. Melt chocolate bits in a double boiler
  10. Dip one end of each bar into melted chocolate, and then into the non-pareils. Place on wax paper to set chocolate

Makes about 4 dozen cookes.
