Poppy-seed layer torte

  1. Cream butter, add sugar, beat in egg yolks.
  2. Stir in remaining ingredients (except jam and cream.
  3. ) beat egg whites.
  4. Fold in batter.
  5. Grease and flour two 9-inch layer cake pans.
  6. Spoon half of batter into each.
  7. Bake in oven (350°F) for 30 minutes.
  8. Fill cold layers with jam.
  9. Top with whipped cream.
