  1. Melt margarine or butter in cake pan 8x2" sprinkle with brown sugar.
  2. Put papaw slices in bottom of small cake pan.
  3. Put sugar and margarine in mixing bowl cream until fluffy and light.
  4. Beat eggs until frothy.
  5. Add to margarine and sugar.
  6. Add essence.
  7. Mix well.
  8. Fold in sifted flour, baking powder and salt, alternately with milk.
  9. Pour on top melted margarine and papaw.
  10. Bake in oven 350°F / 180°C until knife comes out clean.
