About Spartan apple
A firmer offspring of the Mac is the Spartan apple (a Newtown Pippin cross). An all-purpose medium sized apple that is a cross between the McIntosh and the Newtown apple. It is dark red in color and has a crisp, white flesh providing a uniquely sweet flavor. It is a great snacking apple and cooks up soft, making it excellent for applesauce.
