1. Dissolve yeast in warm water.
  2. Add salt and shortening, eggs and sweet potatoes.
  3. Add flour to mixture, 1 cup at a time, beating after each addition thoroughly. The last cup may need to be mixed by hand.
  4. Knead on bread board about 5 minutes until elastic.
  5. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours or more.
  6. Divide dough in 1/2.
  7. Roll to 1/4 inch thickness.
  8. Spread with butter.
  9. Cut in 16 wedges and roll each from large end.
  10. Place on oiled sheet (pan) point down.
  11. Let rise 1 hour.
  12. Do other 1/2 the same way.
  13. Bake 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees.
  14. Brush with butter.


  • May be made into clover leaf or parker house shape instead of crescents.
