Rum, bourbon, and coconut milk lend tropical flair to time-honored eggnog. This recipes doubles easily for a party.

  1. Whisk together first 3 ingredients in a heavy saucepan.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring often, 5 to 6 minutes or to 160°.
  3. Remove from heat, and stir in flavorings.
  4. Place plastic wrap directly over surface, and chill at least 4 hours.
  5. Stir in rum and bourbon.
  6. Beat whipping cream at medium speed with an electric mixer until soft peaks form; fold into nog
  7. Sprinkle each serving with nutmeg and, if desired, toasted coconut.

Yield: about 7 cups
