My great grandma's poor man's cake was pretty famous back in the day. I hope it keeps up with the times.
INGREDIENTS AND EQUIPMENT:
Small bread or muffin pan for baking.
Pot for mixing ingredients.
1 lb of raisins.
2 cups of water.
1 cup cold water.
2 cups of sugar.
1 cup Crisco/butter/lard. Choose one.
1 teaspoon salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
1/2 teaspoon of cloves.
2 teaspoons of baking soda.
4 1/2 cups of flour.
Put two cups of water into pot with raisins. Boil raisins for 15 minutes.
Add sugar and lard before you add the cup of cold water into pot.
Add baking soda then the other ingredients.
Bake in bread pan or muffin pan for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
To check if it's done, poke with a tooth pick. If it comes out clean, then it's done.
I forgot to mention that you need to bake it at 350 degrees. My bad.
